Men
Behind junior Doug Haber's stellar performance, the men's rugby team managed to slip by St. Michael's College, 19-10. Haber scored all three of the team's three tries as the Panthers struggled to their victory. Despite the return of team anchors Epeli Rokotuiveikau '03 and Jody Kramer '03, the team is still hampered by injuries. Haber was also strong on the defensive end, and helped his team keep St. Michael's to one try and one penalty conversion. This weekend at UVM, captain Angus Birchall '03 hopes that the Panthers revive some of the guts, determination and heart that he feels they lacked in their last game.
Women
The women's rugby team is looking to enter the top ranks of their conference as they take on Keene State this coming weekend. After a 72-0 spanking of New England College last Saturday, the Panthers are going to take the confidence of this game to New Hampshire. They will use the experience of a veteran-laden team as well as quick-learning rookie reserves. President Erika Mercer '03 says her team is looking forward "to the most important and critical game of our season." With a win, Middlebury is guaranteed a trip to the playoffs. However, a loss would mean a lack of any post season play.
