With three matches under its belt already this season, the men's tennis team remains perfect. The Panthers posted their third straight 7-0 victory, the most recent coming last Wednesday when the team hosted Northern neighbors, the University of Vermont (UVM). The team has yet to be tested but is proving very consistent in its handling of weaker opposition, with not so much as one player dropping a game in either the UVM match or the earlier matches against Skidmore and Union.
The team is using an exeptional core of young players for their success this season, with three sophomores and two first-years in the lineup against UVM. Justin Ingoglia '05 played number one for the second time this season, and his match was actually the closest of the day at 6-3, 7-5. The two first-years in the lineup were behind Ingoglia, as Nathan Edmonds and Ari Beilin both won easily. A third first-year, Brian Waldron, is normally in the top six, but was given the day off from singles and only competed in a doubles match, which he won with senior captain Steve Hulce. The senior, at number four, also easily won his singles match. Rounding out the top six were sophomores Andrew Jacobi and Alex Meditz.
The team has completed its pre-break schedule and will now head out to California for what will surely be a grueling set of five matches in six days. In the back of all the players' minds must the fact that the Panthers will be hosting the NESCAC Championship in late April, which will be a great opportunity for the team to show its improvement over the last year.
