The Senior Class Gift Committee is currently at work on this year's installment of a 20-year tradition of giving to Middlebury College.
Each year the senior class selects a gift to be given to the College. The gift must be self-sustaining and is intended to help relieve budget constraints. Past gifts have included trails and landscaping, scholarships and essential equipment such as printers.
An online poll for seniors is currently being held to decide this year's gift. Through this poll seniors may select from a list of previously proposed gifts such as the Angel's Award or a walkway from Old Chapel to the new library. Seniors may also add their own suggestions for gifts in the online referendum. The gift idea that receives the most votes will be selected for this year.
Monetary donations by seniors provide the funding for each year's gift, but all students who wish to donate may do so, regardless of their class. This year, fundraising for the gift begins in early April.
According to Kristie Gonzalez '02, Annual Giving Officer, "The senior class gift is the last opportunity as students, and the first opportunity as soon-to-be alumni, to give back to the College and to the students that will come after. It is a tradition and a way for a class to leave a legacy."
