The Admissions Office has heard from over 350 students accepted to the Class of 2007 who have chosen to attend Middlebury College over other institutions.
This figure is slightly larger than the number of deposits received from admitted applicants by this date a year ago.
The increase in accepted students who have decided to matriculate is not particularly surprising, according to Director of Admissions John Hanson.
He emphasizes that 350 is "not an uncommon number" of positive responses to have received at this point in time.
Hanson explains that the number "may partially reflect a somewhat larger number of early decision admissions."
He declined to draw any further generalizations from the numbers as they stand now, explaining that at this moment "there are too many variables at play" to understand what the statistics mean.
Religious and postal holidays coupled with the impending dates of open houses for admitted students here at Middlebury and at other institutions, make it difficult to predict from the current number how many admitted students will ultimately choose to attend Middlebury.
The Admissions Office will not "pay much attention" to these numbers until the second week of May, at which point it will be easier to gauge the response.
The office is hoping that the numbers at that point in time will be smaller than they were in the year prior, as the College is aiming to have a somewhat smaller incoming class for the upcoming academic year.
