Multiple Sclerosis and Cystic Fibrosis Walks March into Town

Author: [no author name found]

Just as Middlebury residents and students get ready to step outside and enjoy spring, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society are giving the community another reason to get out into the sun.
On Saturday, May 3, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is sponsoring a walk to raise money that will fund scientific research on multiple sclerosis (MS).
MS is thought to be an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, spinal cord and the optic nerves. The walk, which begins outside of Middlebury Union High School, will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On Sunday, May 4, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is holding its "Great Strides" walk in Middlebury at 2:00 p.m. The walk, which begins on Franklin Street near Twilight Hall, raises money through pledges to support Cystic Fibrosis (CF) research. CF is a life-threatening genetic disease, which affects the lungs and digestive system.
Both organizations encourage walkers to pre-register. Registration forms and pledge sheets are available at Ilsley Library. More information on the Multiple Sclerosis Walk can be obtained at nmss.com and information on the Cystic Fibrosis Walk is available at cff.org.
