The showdown of Division III women's lacrosse is coming to town this Saturday when the Panthers host the Lord Jeffs. An annual rival, the Lord Jeffs always present a huge challenge for Middlebury. The teams have been at each other's throats for the past few seasons. The Panthers have not lost to Amherst since the 2000 season, when they fell to their foes on April 8, 11-10. Since then, however, Middlebury has triumphed in the last five face-offs, including two NESCAC championships and one NCAA championship. Middlebury and Amherst are currently ranked first and second in the nation, respectively, and tied for the top position in NESCAC standings. Both teams are undefeated and looking to knock the other out of contention for a NESCAC crown. Not only are bragging rights at stake this weekend, but Amherst will also be looking to snap Middlebury's 40-game winning streak that dates back to May 20, 2000.
