This past Saturday, the four lovely "ladies"from the House of LeMay slipped into their sequins, strutted into their stilettos and teased their tantalizing tresses to the max in preparation for their much-anticipated Proctor performance. The beloved dining hall, usually home to hungry Middlebury students, now housed this side-splitting drag queen extravaganza. The performance, part of their Leaf Peepin', Cider Sippin' Revue Tour, featured a dynamic dancing and live-singing set to a not-so-subtle satire of Vermont back culture. Amber, Marguerite, Lucybelle and Liza Little sent the audience into fits of laughter with their dramatic drag. Coming from Beaver Pond, Vt., the LeMay sisters hit the Middlebury campus bearing a familiar face. Michael Glidden aka Liza Little, barista at the Grille's Juice Bar, commented on the fun, often ridiculous nature of this unique showbiz experience, saying that, "It's comedy all set in musical. We can get away with more in our drag persona and get more fun reactions than we could doing the performance straight. Travelling from Beaver Pond, Vt. to Middlebury is always a turmoil, but well worth the ride and a lot of fun."
More than a mere comedy show, the House of LeMay is not just laughs. Their boisterous show-tune voices and provocative ensembles made this an incredibly thrilling evening. College students appreciated the avant-garde atmosphere created in Proctor, which provided an entertaining alternative to more conservative Saturday night options. The typical college party paled in comparison to enormous wigs and excessively sparkled attire. The ladies of Lemay, redneck drag queens at their best, brought a little bit of unexpected flavor to Vermont nightlife.
