McGillen wins honor

Field hockey goalie Meg McGillen '07 was named NESCAC Player of the Week for her spectacular performance during the week of Oct. 16. On Saturday the 14th, McGillen made 11 saves in the eighth- ranked Panthers shutout of fourth-ranked Williams. The next day, McGillen recorded seven saves in a 3-2 overtime victory versus fifth ranked Ursinus McGillen now has six shutouts on the season, and will be a key factor during the Panther's post-season bid.


Women's golf wins 4th

Over fall break, the Panther women's golf team concluded their fall season at the Wellesley Fall Invitational. The tournament took place at Nehoiden Golf Course in Wellesley, MA. The Panthers once again stole the show, winning the eight-team event with a two day total of 651, good for a 24 shot victory over second place Wellesley. The win marked the fourth victory in five events for the Panthers, with the other being a second place effort.

Allison Ortega '07 captured medalist honors with a fifteen-over-par, two-day 159. Heather Gallagher '07 finished right behind Ortega, in second place with a 162. With a 163 and fifth place was Kerry Ortega '07. Julie Ellenberger and Karen Levin each shot a 169, which was good for eighth place.

The Panthers are now off until next spring. The ladies will be swinging the clubs in the confines of the athletic center in preparation for next March's Jekyll Island Invitational.


Tennis finishes season

While the rest of campus was enjoying Homecoming weekend, the Women's Tennis team was competing in the NEWITT Championships at Mt. Holyoke.

Leading the team was Emily Holick '07, who captured the number four singles title. Elizabeth Emery '09 and Amy Berkman '08 made it to the semifinals in the number five and number six singles bracket before falling.

In doubles, the squads of Emery and Claire Smyser '08, along with Holik and Chandra Kurien '09, made it to the quarterfinals before both teams were eliminated.

The Men's team ended its season over fall break at the Bates Invitational. Chris Mason '10 was victorious in the "B" singles flight. Peter Odell '10 advanced to the semifinals before falling. Odell and Mason teamed up for a title in the "B" bracket of doubles, while Andrew Lee '10 and Eliot Jia '10 lost to the eventual champions in the semifinals of the "A" bracket.

In addition, Alex Scott '07 and George Mayer '07 competed in the ITA National Small College Championships in Florida. Scott advanced to the semifinals, before falling. Scott and Mayer then teamed up in doubles. After dropping the opening match, the two rebounded to capture the consolation bracket.

These tournaments mark the completion of the fall season for both the men's and women's squads, before they return to action next spring.
