Inside the Locker Room Frazier Stowers clears his schedule to talk to The Campus

Author: Brooke Farquhar

Whether standing on the pitchers mound at Forbes Field or clearing six-foot heights in the high jump, Frazier Stowers '08.5 shines as a two-sport varsity athlete. The intense time-commitment is nothing compared to his middle school days, when he played five sports.

Most recently, the junior-Feb from Lynchburg, Va. broke an indoor track high jump record with a leap of 6'4" at the University of Vermont Indoor Track Meet on January 19. Stowers was not the only Panther to put up a new school record at UVM - the women's 4 x 400 relay team of Kara Plunkett '07, Susanna Merrill '09, Simone Weisman '09, and Anjuli Demers '10 broke the standing 4:12.85 record with a time of 4:12.44.

At UVM to watch Frazier shatter the school record were fellow jumper David Reymondet '09 and roommate Tyler Lohman '08.5. Stowers commented that he owed his performance at UVM to his friends who came out and supported him...but who knows him better?

Will Frazier's fellow jumper clear the questions or will Lohman's knowledge of Frazier as a roommate (and coincidentally as a baseball teammate) set the bar too high?

In a close competition, the roommate contender, Tyler Lohman, was too much for Reymondet. Where Lohman and Reymondet did align, however, was in their incorrect assessment of Stowers' speed. Presented with the question, "Which pole-vaulter or high jumper would beat out the others in a sprint?" both answered, "Frazier," to which Reymondet added, "but he won't admit it." Indeed Frazier said his teammate, pole-vaulter Evan Daniel '10, had the quickest feet.

Regardless, Lohman '08.5 dominated the rest of the questions. Frazier told The Campus that his favorite Muppet character is, "Curious George - even though he's not a Muppet - [but] if I had to go with one, I'd say Kermit, he's awesome." Lohman's response was almost identical: "Kermit, but he likes Curious George more."

Is the overwhelming accuracy of Lohman's answers curious? When asked to comment, Lohman replied, "I guess I just know him the best. Teammate and roommate is the winning combination."

Stowers didn't compete in the M.I.T. Invitational over Feb break, but is looking forward, and up, to the New England Championships this coming weekend.
