Spring Rummage Sale
Spring cleaning may not rank particularly high on most individuals' list of preferred ways to spend a gloriously warm April afternoon - but selling the fruits of such labor sure does. With this in mind, the Middlebury Congregational Church's fellowship hall will play host to a spring rummage sale on April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. Stock up on spring and summer clothing (read: no more salt-encrusted boots and sad, beleaguered winter jackets!), bedding, linen, toys, games, books and kitchen items at affordable prices, and no short supply of charm. And, heck, why not make a day of it? Continue your trek on the Congregational Church circuit in nearby Cornwall at a "Tag and Bake Sale," slated to take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the same day and offer birdhouses, housewares, home-baked goods and "lots more." For more information, call (802) 462-2370.
Benefit Dance in Bristol
As you unwind from your rummage sale extravaganza, boogie down for a worthy cause on April 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bristol American Legion. Proceeds from the event - which will feature live music, raffles, a bake sale and auction - will contribute to medical expenses and family needs for the benefit Eileen "Tish" Elkins, a Starksboro resident who suffers from a form of bone cancer.
Earth Day Fair in Middlebury
The Town of Middlebury will mark Earth Day when it mounts its annual celebration of spring and local community solutions on April 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Town Green. Good music? Check. Free food? Check. Swap seeds or seedlings, and harness your rhythmic finesse to take part in the open drumming circle. The event is sponsored by the Middlebury Area Global Warming Action Committee (MAGWAC) and the Addison County Relocalization Network (ACoRN). For more information - or to find out how to get involved - call (802) 388-9478.
Spring Fashion Show
Who needs Vogue, "America's Next Top Model" and all the fare of glamorous runways when you have Orwell Town Hall on a Sunday afternoon? Glimpse fashion at its finest on April 20 at 2 p.m. when Orwell Fortnightly sponsors a showcase of fashions by Christopher and Banks of Rutland, fresh from the women's casual clothing racks at the Diamond Run Mall. If all else fails, light refreshments served.
Intro to Bee-Keeping
If you've been missing your dog since arriving at college - or if, on the contrary, you've grown tired of all things cute and cuddly and are in search of a moderately more vicious pet - head on over to Salisbury Library on April 21 at 7 p.m. for a presentation by Vermont State Apiary Inspector Steven Parise on the fundamentals of bee keeping. (Apiaries are so much more aesthetically pleasing than fish tanks or gerbil cages, after all.) Just, you know, don't get stung ... too many times.
