Students nabbed for campus racoon hunt

Two intoxicated students were arrested for hunting raccoons with bow and arrows at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Police officials found the two students, identified as Jared Leidich, 22, and fifth-year senior civil engineering major Wesley Ashwood, 24, around 2:50 a.m, May 2.

The two were found "literally, like hiding behind bushes and things like that," said CUPD commander Tim McGraw.

The police report described the students as "visibly intoxicated.' One of the men was carrying a silver can and both had a nylon hunting case with them when they were arrested.

Officers found a compound hunting bow, six arrows, four of which had sharp tips, and three unopened beers. Officers took the weapons and were unable to find a serial number on the bow.

Police charged the two with possession of a deadly weapon on University Grounds, for the bows and arrows. Upon paying bond, the two were released.

War on drugs hits San Diego State University

Eighteen San Diego State University students were arrested Tuesday by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents after the DEA and university police discovered that the students had been selling drugs on and near campus.

Though the students were primarily involved in selling cocaine, the DEA investigation confiscated over $100,000 worth of drugs in all, including marijuana and ecstasy. The entire operation has taken roughly 100 individuals into custody this past year.

"SDSU will continue to do what is necessary - through both enforcement and education - to encourage our students to make the responsible choices to ensure the health and safety of our campus community," said University President Stephen Weber.

Theta Chi and five other fraternities were suspended by the University following the arrests.

According to The Daily Aztec, the sting was aimed at "mid-level drug dealers with connections to the Tijuana cartel."

Vanessa Williams to get degree after long delay

Over 25 years after leaving the school without a degree, Vanessa Williams will return to Syracuse University to claim it and address other graduates.

Williams stars in the ABC TV show "Ugly Betty." The 45-year-old actress, singer and model attended the University from 1981-83.

She will earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Syracuse's College of Visual and Performing Arts. Williams obtained the remaining credits needed to earn a musical theater major through industry experience and performances on stage and screen.

Williams became the first African-American Miss America in 1983, but later had her crown stripped after Penthouse magazine published nude, sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier.

Coming off the scandal, Williams succeeded in other career ventures. She has sold over 4 million records to date, starred in several movies and made TV appearances. She has won a Tony, received two NAACP Image Awards and nine Grammy nominations.

In 1996, Williams received the George Arents Pioneer Medal, Syracuse University's most prestigious alumni award.
