Having both the New York and London Fashion Week just under our belts, and Milan’s underway, Midd Muse aims to explore the campus for this season's new looks. While Middlebury rests in the depths of the Green Mountains — far from tall buildings, loud noises and lights so bright they cover the stars in the sky — the campus still encompasses an eclectic group of people, many of whom care about fashion.
Fashion is a unique form of self-expression in which everyone participates simply by getting dressed each morning. Fashion could mean getting up ten minutes before class and throwing on the nearest pants and sweatshirt or spending that extra 55 minutes to put on something you feel good and stylish in. Not to mean that people pass judgment on specific clothing choices — but rather the amount of fashionable students on campus is downplayed all too often. Midd Muse will be profiling a different student every other week to reveal Middlebury's underrated style scene.
The “hot new trend” rarely encompasses a large group because people prefer to be unique — but the general concepts of the trends are represented by retailers everywhere. This season in shoes, keep an eye out for funky sneakers, ankle boots and a new take on loafers.

Do you follow the trends — or do you dress purely for comfort?
“I try and pay attention to trends. I don’t consider myself particularly fashionable —most of my friends think I purchase clothes mainly from Baby Gap. If I see someone wearing something that looks good, I try and pull it off if I can. Sometimes I dress for comfort and sometimes for attention it’s ultimately pretty random.”
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
“If I have an early class, I will get up about half an hour ahead of time to try and look like a reasonable human being. If I am feeling very productive, I put my clothes out the night before so it takes me less time to decide.”
What is your favorite place to shop?
“Probably Nastygal or ASOS. If I didn’t have a budget — maybe Rag and Bone.”
What is your “go to” outfit?
“Jeans, tall boots and either a form fitting top or a comfortable, drapey sweater.”
How would you describe your style?
“I try and stay away from ‘making a statement’ because I don’t have that much faith in my fashion abilities, so I find what I think looks good and not ridiculously inappropriate (sometimes I need help with that) and stick with that.”
