Cycling club competes in Mountain Bike National Championships

Fall is mountain bike season for the Middlebury Cycling Club, which has seen a huge groundswell in interest this year and now boasts a team of 10 racers who competed at four of the five races in the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) series. This is a marked improvement from previous years, when Macky Franklin ’11 was the sole Middlebury challenger at these events.  Franklin continued his successful mountain-bike racing career this year along with the new faces in the club, participating in the 2010 Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships in California, which took place Oct. 15-16. The experienced racer finished second in the Short Track Cross Country race and third in the Cross Country.
“The climbs were sustained and the descents were fast and flowy,” said Franklin. “The weather was beautiful and it was a great way to finish off my collegiate mountain biking career.
