Letter to the Editor

Author: Alan Gill

To the Editor:

I'm writing from Canada to express my outrage at the case of O'Neil Walker that occurred last spring during Middlebury's final period.

After reading about his plight in The Village Voice, I decided to write a letter to you expressing my outrage at the ignorance at the fundamental rules of justice, not to mention racism that has occurred by your administration.

To expel Mr. Walker on the basis of a memory from another student who was, by his own confession, drunk at the time is preposterous. This was a bright, high achieving student who had overcome much adversity in his life. To sabotage his academic career on unsubstantiated evidence is unjust and unbecoming of a place of higher learning.

I would continue, but you've probably already made up your minds about this - thinking that it was "the right decision" and that "the facts are proof in this case."

That is what racists often do to protect their ideology of hate, lies and cheating to keep their "enemy" down.

Congratulations on continuing the racist American state.

Sincerely,

Alan Gill

Montreal, Canada
