WRMC: Meet the Radio!

My name is Gennie Herron, and I am the General Manager for WRMC Middlebury College Radio. I have been involved with the station since my first semester, when I started a radio show called “Songs I Play for My Dad in the Car.” Each week I picked a different road trip destination and made a playlist ...

Middlebury’s Museum of Art: A not-so-hidden gem on campus

On Middlebury’s small campus, many students struggle to seek respite from the chaos of back-to-school season. Caught up in the cycle of academics, sports and busy social lives, they rarely get the chance to embrace their artistic sides. What students may not realize is that the Middlebury Museum of ...

Radio Roundup: Songs I found in my mom’s closet

Perhaps one of the best things to come out of isolation was "folklore," an exciting creative departure for Taylor Swift. "folklore" is more stripped down than her previous albums. Still, it doesn't skimp on rich imagery and complex storytelling.

The Takács Quartet first played Middlebury’s Performing Arts Series in 1994,  the start of a 28-year partnership. The quartet’s April 22 performance, featuring a genre-bending ensemble with bandoneón and accordina virtuoso Julien Labro, was by far the most daring program presented.

On Tap taps into energy of popular throwbacks in spring show

Right from the get-go, On Tap’s Friday night performance brought energy to Wilson Hall with an opening number set to Elvis’s “Hound Dog” that featured the full company. With bright smiles and matching red scarves, the group of 14 looked upbeat, cohesive and confident.

Cliff-Hanger: “Torn”

In 1999, Alex Lowe was killed in an avalanche on Mt. Shishapangma in Tibet, an accident survived only by his climbing partner and lifelong friend, Conrad Anker. His story is one of tragedy, adventure and even a Shakespearean love triangle — all the makings of a great Hollywood film. The 2021 documentary, ...

Moth-Up storytellers tackle their “flukes”

15 minutes before the Middlebury Moth-Up event, a cacophony of sound filled The Gamut room as participants practiced in the back of the space while others casually talked. Four student storytellers filled the room with laughter as they told stories related to this event’s theme, “Fluke.”  ...

Radio Roundup: the Indie Rock takeover

The Minnesota-based band Hippo Campus jumped on the indie-pop scene with their bubbly 2017 debut album, "Landmark." From the bouncy lead single "Boyish" to the subtle strums of "Vacation," the album has a soulful range. Their lyrics are playful and colorful, and the album flows well sonically as tracks ...

Reel Critic: “The Price of Safety”

I recently had the opportunity to attend a screening in Dana Auditorium of “The Price of Safety,” a documentary feature about racially biased policing in the nearby Vermont city of Vergennes. The film presents an account of how an otherwise tranquil community was thrust into upheaval by the question ...
