After last academic year offered a notable success story that stood out amongst our peer institutions, achieved through a combination of diligence, planning, and very good fortune, Middlebury has opted to forgo much of what made last year so successful despite the continued prevalence of Covid-19 in Vermont.
In their January meeting, The Board of Trustees approved plans to balance the budget by fiscal year 2022, limit the endowment draw and amortize half of Middlebury’s outstanding debt.

Board of Trustees approves tuition hike, takes steps toward balanced budget

After a year of financial uncertainty amid the pandemic, the Trustees raised tuition by 2.5% and limited the endowment draw to 5% with the goal of the college operating at a surplus by fiscal year 2022.

Concerned Alumni Support the AAUP

"For many of us, our relationships with faculty and staff remain our strongest continued connections to the College," wrote several alumni. "We trust the College will honor its commitments to Middlebury’s mission, and to the staff and faculty who uphold it."
